Bishop Fiorenza St. Mary Seminary Burse
In honor of Bishop Joseph A. Fiorenza's 50 years of
priesthood and 25 years as bishop, the Diocese of Galveston-Houston is
establishing a burse in his name, which will benefit St. Mary Seminary.
According to Auxiliary Bishop Vincent M.
Rizzotto, "The burse has a double purpose to it. One is to help defray
the cost of the education of seminarians who are studying for the
priesthood, and to honor Bishop Fiorenza's faithful service as priest
and bishop.
The burse will be a fund of money which will be
invested, and the interest from this burse will help offset the cost of
the operations of St. Mary Seminary here in Houston and the costs of
training, educating and forming seminarians of the Diocese of
Galveston-Houston.
The diocese is encouraging individuals as well as
parishes, schools, and lay organizations to make a contribution to the
burse by the end of October.
The burse will be presented to Bishop Fiorenza
during his Jubilee Mass, Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at 7:30 p.m., at Reliant
Arena in Houston, to which the public is invited to attend. Special
homilist for the Mass will be Bishop Wilton D. Gregory, president of the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
