Reservation Chapel
The Reservation Chapel is
located in the west transept. Since the
beginning of the celebration of the Eucharistic
meal in the very early church, portions of the
consecrated bread have been reserved to take to
those members of the community who, because of
sickness, cannot partake in the communal
celebration of the breaking of the bread.
In addition, reserved portions of the Blessed
Sacrament were and continue to be used for
Eucharistic adoration.
The walls of the
Reservation Chapel are paneled with the same
semi-precious red marble used in the altar, the
ambo, and the baptismal font. The floor
too, is of the same marble as that in the
sanctuary floor. The use of like materials
illustrates the connection and continuation of
the Eucharistic presence. The tabernacle,
the repository for the Blessed Sacrament, is
located within the Reservation Chapel.
