Ambry

The ambry, the niche holding holy oils, is situated in the east transept.  These oils, blessed and consecrated by the bishop of the archdiocese each year during Holy Week, are used in the celebration of Baptism, Anointing of the Sick, Confirmation and Holy Orders.  They are reserved in sacred vessels marked with monograms: OC indicating the Oil of Catechumens, OI identifying the Oil for the Infirmed, and SC on the vessel containing Sacred Chrism.
